Sizzle or Fizzle – NFL Week 15

16 December 2023 • by abovedev

Welcome Back to Sizzle or Fizzle! Let’s win and advance.

Keep in mind, we aren’t going to inundate you with stats, nor are we going to do deep dives into these topics. We’re keeping things bite-sized on purpose, so you can get the quick hits and make decisions accordingly. Let’s dive in ahead of Week 15.

Fizzle: My Hot Takes

The week I said DeAndre hopkins was a safe drop was the first time Will Levis was the starter. Hopkins erupted for 3 TDs in one game, and made me look a fool.

In Week 13, I answered a question on our livestream that asked out of 4 RBs who was the safest to drop. My answer was James Connor, and he subsequently ran for over 100 yards and 2 touchdowns.

In this article last week, I said it might be time to trade Breece Hall in dynasty because the Jets are the Jets. In Week 14, Hall had a combined 126 yards, fueled by 8 catches, and found the endzone once.

I am the first to admit when I’m wrong, and I love that these mistakes happen. If you listened to me and regret it, I’m sorry and hope you now realize that many of my spicy takes are laughed at by the Fantasy Football gods, often resulting in positive fantasy outcomes. Take that as you will.

Sizzle: Hope for the Chargers

Brandon Staley is gone. The GM who has fumbled every pick other than Justin Herbert is gone. There are rumors that Bill Belichick or Jim Harbaugh could make their way to LA next year.

Outside of Keenan Allen and a few games from Justin Herbert, the Chargers have been a fantasy nightmare. Josh Palmer has been nothing but smoke, Mike Williams got hurt, and Austin Ekeler has played illusionist and disappeared.

Now, though, a new head coach and offensive scheme, combined with a great quarterback, means that maybe we have a revival of the Chargers’ fantasy prowess in 2024.

Sizzle: Streaming Defenses Will Save Christmas

There’s a good and bad side to still including team DST in fantasy football. On the plus side, you have an opportunity for essentially free points most weeks. On the other hand, most of us stream defenses based on matchups, and our preconceptions about defenses can shift throughout the season.

For example, the idea that the Chargers are a team whose opponent you should stream is nothing we would’ve expected in Week 1. The idea that the Falcons could get you 12-15 fantasy points against the Panthers is unheard of. Streaming the Titans against the Texans (yes, it’s because CJ Stroud is out) isn’t something I would have considered before the fantasy playoffs.

However, now is the time to put up or shut up. Trust your gut, stream a team you like, and hold on for the ride.

Fizzle: This Article for the Rest of the Season

We are going to consider the start of the Fantasy playoffs a time to wrap up our Sizzle or Fizzle series this year. It’s been a fun time giving some hot takes and calling our shots. Look for more Sizzle or Fizzle ahead of Week 1 in 2024 – now’s the time to go win a Fantasy Championship!
